1.Union Cabinet Approves India’s Membership for EBRD

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the membership of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The EBRD’s membership enhances the international profile of India and promotes its economic interests and contributes to better investment environment in the country.

It increases the collaboration between India and the EBRD through manufacturing, services, information technology, and co-financing opportunities in energy.

2.Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurated fifth Global Conference on Cyberspace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the 5th global conference on cyber space, saying he has brought changes in the entire world in a rapid shift in digital domain.

3.PM launches Umang app

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Umang Mobile Application, a comprehensive forum for the government for civic services. Umang – “unified mobile app for the new age” is a short name for e-governance – currently offers 162 services from 33 government departments of central and state governments. This app was developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).

Some services are related to Aadhaar, DigiLocker, Pay Gov, Bharath Bill Payment System (BBPS) and CBSE. This app provides easy access to these services through mobile without a detailed project report (DPR) / bidding process.

4.The government will set up a panel to draft New Direct Tax Law

The government has set up a task force to rebuild the 50 year old Income Tax Act in synchronization with the country’s economic needs. CBDT Member (Legislation), Girish Ahuja (Chartered Accountant), Rajiv Mani (Chairman, INI Regional Managing Partner), Mansi Kadiya (Consultant, ICRR).

During the annual meeting of the tax authorities in September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Income Tax Act, 1961 have been drafted for more than 50 years.

5.India climbs 3 steps to 51 on IMD World Talent Rankings

India has improved its ranking by three notches to 51 globally in terms of ability to attract, develop and retain talent while Switzerland topped the list compiled by leading global business school IMD.

Globally, Europe continues to dominate the rankings, with Switzerland, Denmark, and Belgium being the most competitive countries. Austria, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Sweden and Luxembourg made up the top 10.

6.IKEA opens first ‘Hej HOME’ in India at Hyderabad

The Swedish Home Furnishing Main IKEA introduced the first experimental center ‘IKEA Huge House’ in Hyderabad, before the launch of its first store in the same state in the spring of 2018.

IKEA Hej HOME IKEA designed for six months, introduces customers with IKEA Home Furnishings Solutions and provides the first-hand experience of the IKEA Store.

7.Sri Lankan Prime Minister Wickremesinghe Visits to India

8.Emerson Managagua is sworn in as New President of Zimbabwe

Former Vice President of Zimbabwe Emerson Mnangagwa is sworn in as President of the country. Parliament speaker Jacob Mudenda said that the ruling ZANU-PF party has proposed to replace Mr Mugabe’s term of retirement. Mugabe retired after the country ruled for 37 years.

The removal of Mnangagwa’s post of vice president, the ruling party and the army, forced Mr Mugabe to resign.
